    Book details

A collection of five story poems illustrated by drawings, range from the title poem, where no end of fun is had on a giant slide made of snow, to the incredible antics of the mysterious Captain Jim who performs all sorts of heroic deeds with a little help from his cricket bat. Allan Ahlberg has also co-written "Each Peach Pear Plum" which won the Kate Greenaway Medal, 1978 and "Peepo!" which won "Parents Magazine" Best Books for Babies' Award, 1985. He has also written the "Happy Families" series and "Please Mrs Butler". Charlotte Voake has also illustrated "The Way to Sattin Shore" by Philippa Pearce and "The Witch Child" by Imogen Chichester.

Allan Ahlberg, a former teacher, postman, plumber's mate and grave digger, is in the super-league of children's writers. He has published over 100 children's books and, with his late wife Janet, created such award-winning picture books as EACH PEACH PEAR PLUM and THE JOLLY CHRISTMAS POSTMAN - both winners of the Greenaway Medal. He has also written prize-winning poetry and fiction for older readers. --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

This contains 2 of my favourite poems for children. Alison Hubble and The Boiler Room Door. My last copy of the book fell into disrepair and had to replace it.Alison Hubble is great for maths lessons when teaching doubling!

These are stories in verse rather than poems. There are just 5 stories but they are good fun to read to a group or for reading alone.
